2018-19 Scholarship

Chris & Bridgett Day are the successful applicants for the 2018-19 Willunga Farmers Market Scholarship.

An emerging farm enterprise based in Yankalilla on the Fleurieu Peninsula. Chris & Bridgett plan to produce pasture raised lamb for their customers and have a small herd of 20 breeding ewes.

They have an established olive grove of 250 trees which produces quality olive oil, with room to expand the grove and add fruiting varieties as well as jujubes and other speciality climate appropriate tree crops.

Moving forward they will grow their farm enterprise to provide increased quantities of lamb and expand into long storage garlic varieties, medicinal, culinary and indigenous herbs, potted fruit trees and fruit.

Chris and Bridgett plan to provide associated value-added products such as ready-to-go lamb packs comprising garlic, oil and herbs.

Their core principles are to regenerate* the land through their farming practices and management, while providing nutrient dense food to the community.

*Regenerative Farming: β€˜Regenerative Agriculture is a system of farming principles and practices that increases biodiversity, enriches soils, improves watersheds, and enhances ecosystem services.’

The Farmers scholarship is a partnership between the Willunga Farmers Market and the Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges Natural Resource Management board.
